McDonald’s does not plan to use J.R. Simplot's GMO potatoes

A huge debate is happening these days in the USA involving the J.R. Simplot Co.'s freshly approved genetically modified potato.
Federal agricultural regulators have approved the new genetically modified potato for American farmers to grow that’s aimed at the fast-food market.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision involved the potato identified as Innate, developed by the J.R. Simplot Company.
Innate potatoes are manipulated to contain less of the chemical acrylamide, which can cause cancer in people who eat fried potatoes. In the same time, the GMO potato also is designed to bruise less during harvesting and transport.
McDonald's, the world's largest fast-food company and a longtime buyer of Simplot potatoes for French fries, says it doesn't plan to buy Simplot's potatoes.
"McDonald's USA does not source GMO potatoes, nor do we have current plans to change our sourcing practices," the company said in a statement. The Innate line of potatoes received federal approval Nov. 7 to go to market.
