Ukraine Officials Say The Country Has “A Sufficient Amount” of Potatoes

Despite its refusal to buy from Russia and Belarus, Ukraine won't have a scarcity of potatoes this winter, the agriculture ministry recently stated.
Since the Russian invasion on February 24, Ukraine has stopped importing any potatoes from the two neighboring countries. Belarus has served as Moscow's principal ally in the conflict, allowing the Russian military to attack Ukraine from within its borders.
According to a statement from the ministry, approximately 12m tonnes of potatoes, or 73% of the anticipated harvest of about 16.6m tonnes, had already been harvested as of October 25.
It said the 2022 area sown to potatoes had fallen by 36% due to hostilities in many regions of the country.
“We have a sufficient amount of this product, which fully satisfies domestic consumption and food security. There will be no shortage of potatoes,” the ministry said, according to Reuters.
In Ukraine, potatoes are the vegetable that is most frequently consumed. Small households in Ukraine harvest the majority of the country's potatoes.
