The Ukrainian Supply of Potatoes on the Market Increased Sharply

In Ukraine, the spud liftings that have been postponed due to the rain have continued. As a result, there were significantly more potatoes available on the market, and prices began to drop.

According to a market analysis by EastFruit, prices these days ranged from USD0.11 to USD0.19, which is generally 16% less expensive than a week ago.

“It is still hard to buy sufficient volumes of high-quality potatoes, and the prices are at the maximum limits of the price range. Producers that have high-quality potatoes prefer to store them, expecting positive price dynamics in winter and spring,” the analysis shows.

On the market, there are now a lot of poor-quality, non-storable potatoes. Because they would otherwise have to incur significant losses, growers are prepared to sell them for a relatively low price. Potatoes of low quality can currently be bought for as little as USD0.05 per kilogram.

“Despite the decline in prices, potatoes in Ukraine are currently sold at almost the same price as a year ago. Most producers do not agree to reduce prices and choose to stop selling potatoes, expecting a rise in prices in the segment in about a month,” the experts concluded.
