India Sets Record in Potato Production in 2017

India's potato production is estimated to be around 47m tons this year, just behind the all-time high record in 2014.
The output stood at 43.4m tons in 2015-16 crop year (July-June), while the previous record was 48m tons, achieved in 2014-15, according to local press.
"Looking at the crop condition and arrival in mandis (local marketplaces). I feel the overall output will be close to record levels. Potato output would be around 47 million tons this year," National Horticulture Board (NHB) managing director A K Singh told local press.
Initially, NHB had projected 43.88m tons output for this year, but this will be revised after assessing the arrival.
The crop condition in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar - the top three potato producing states - is in very good condition.
