FAM Announces the New Volantis V-Belt Slicing Machine

FAM has started the new year with the launch of a new V-belt slicing machine. Called the FAM Volantis, the machine is suited for the transverse slicing of a wide range of vegetables, including potatoes, in slices, shreds, and square pieces.
The Volantis is designed for precise cutting and oblong products like potatoes, green beans, zucchini, carrots and more, up to a diameter of 115mm. It can be fed manually or by any feeding system provided that this system feeds the product to the machine evenly.
The more than 2 meters long infeed section will contribute to a better orientation of the product and will align it in order to prevent any tumbling while it is fed into the slicing wheel.
Precision Cuts in a Split of a Second
The integrated 24 series slicing wheels, in combination with the selected or programmed speed on the Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs ) of that feed belts, allows to maintain the speed of the product while it is being sliced, without the need of motorized hold-down belts for most of the products.
The high speed of the knives combined with the cutting method produces uniform slices with a smooth surface and a minimum of breakage and ragged ends, thus increasing the shelf-life of the end-product.
Flexibility and Ease of Operation
Additionally, the Volantis features a compact color touchscreen that offers a simplified operator interface for quick set-up and rapid product changeover. Users can store and select the list of cutting applications, including the exact cutting sizes and speeds, making operations easy even for inexperienced operators.
The integrated and standard VFDs offer a precise speed control and maximum flexibility producing different cut sizes.
According to FAM, the new machine is designed to reduce the total cost of ownership, while also increasing productivity. Improved hygiene and cleaning access, reduction of wear parts, easy-to-replace feed belts and increased output will reduce the total cost of ownership and will pay back the investment in the new machine very quickly, says the company.
FAM will officially launch the Volantis Transverse Slicer during Fruit Logistica, which will take place between February 5-7 in Berlin, Germany.
