Kronen to Premier Packaging Machine Dedicated to Recycling at Fruit Logistica

Kronen will premiere a new packaging machine called GSK LEAF for potatoes and other vegetables at the upcoming Fruit Logistica, which is set to take place between February 5 and 7 in Berlin, Germany.
Long-time Kronen partner GKS Packaging B.V will show off a vertical form, fill and seal machine for packaging with 100% recyclable paper and 100% compostable paper. The paper is FSC certified mono material that does not absorb moisture from the packaged product and maintains its strength and structural integrity. The packaging machine has a modular setup and is made entirely of recycled and recyclable materials.
Both pillow and stand-up block bottom bags with carrying holes for agricultural products such as potatoes, onions, and others can be produced. Optionally, the bags can be produced with paper mesh window using a sealing module located on the machine. Alternatively, the machine can also be operated with conventional packaging film.
Also, Kronen will show the Deconwa Prep, which prepares whole fruits and vegetables for further processing through a washing process, at Fruit Logistica. The product surface is hygienized by washing with fresh water, with the addition of hygienizing additives if required.
At the same event, Kronen will also show off its smart solutions which are web-enabled machines. According to the company, smart machines can transfer the machine status in real-time to the Kronen cloud or the internal systems of the customers. The communication-capable machines thus enable checking of machine status and settings in real-time and regardless of location.
The resulting fast fault detection and data exchange with e.g. MES systems increase the efficiency of production processes. The data acquisition enables the tracing of producing processes as well as an overview of the capacity utilization.
