Sri Lanka Plans to Halt Potato Imports

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, stated that following the general election, the importation of potatoes will be halted.

The Prime Minister said this at a public meeting recently held in Boralanda, Welimada. Rajapaksa said that the era of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) political party is an era where the “farmer becomes king”.

Currently, there are no fair prices for vegetable farmers and potato farmers, the PM claimed. He stated that measures would be taken to halt the importation of potatoes from foreign countries as soon as the SLPP comes into power.
