Potato Prices in Ukraine Have Dropped

Potato prices in Ukraine have dropped dramatically since the start of the 28th of August - 3rd of September 2023 week. The main reason for these unfavorable potato market trends was the start of liftings in key production zones, which increased potato supply.

The wholesale prices for potatoes currently range between USD0.16-0.25/kg, which is on average 17% less than after the previous working week, according to EastFruit daily pricing and market monitoring. Ukrainian potato growers claim that customers are becoming more picky about the quality of the tuber.

“If in 2022 it was possible to sell even small potatoes without much effort, now such a product is in low demand. Only large wholesale batches of the medium-size potatoes are sold relatively well,” a recent EastFruit project analysis reveals.

On average, potato prices in Ukraine are currently 10% less expensive than they were during the same time last year. The market participants whose opinions the experts consulted are still very gloomy regarding price prospects. They claim it is impossible to anticipate price increases shortly due to the relatively high number of potatoes on the market.
