Challenges and Opportunities for the Future of U.S Exports

Increasing the U.S. potato exports across all product types; more people eating more U.S. potatoes in more ways; expanding the access for U.S. potatoes across the globe and consumers know potatoes’ key health and lifestyle benefits – these are the international objectives of the Potatoes USA international marketing committee, presented the Annual Meeting in Denver March 15 - 16.
The figures presented at the reunion showed that the U.S. potato exports increased with 183%, in 20 years, from 1996 to 2016.
The challenges of the future of U.S. export growth are the market access, strong competition from traditional and new exporters, U.S. is high priced, shipping rates and infrastructure U.S. supply and processing capacity and strong dollar.
On the other hand, the opportunities for the future of U.S. export growth are the growth of 3% - 5% per year in world demand, U.S. has the highest quality, U.S. capacity is expanding, exports becoming more important to industry, the potential new market openings and the Potatoes USA market development programs.
