Addressing the Growing Effects of Climate Change on Yields and Potato Crop Quality

In support of its dedication to creating environmentally sustainable food, McCain Foods Limited (McCain) recently released its Sustainability Report.

The organization's sustainability results from the previous Fiscal Year (FY) are included in the report, which shows how McCain is addressing the problems caused by climate change and prioritizing improving soil health and the adoption of more regenerative farming practices by its farming partners. The expansion of plant-forward product innovations has also been made possible by important strategic investments. The report is strengthened this year by a strengthened methodology that adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard.

McCain's continuing emphasis on agricultural innovation supports the company's position as a world leader in food production. By offering technical support and funding opportunities that can help address the growing effects of climate change on yields and crop quality, McCain has accelerated its regenerative agriculture ambition in collaboration with its farmer partners. Notably, it has also launched its second Farm of the Future in South Africa. McCain has also improved its use of renewable electricity, reduced CO2 emissions noticeably, and met its water efficiency goal three years ahead of schedule. Through donations and volunteer work, the company has made major contributions to the areas in which it operates.

These milestones illustrate the significant progress McCain is making to adopt smart and sustainable farming practices, make its operations more resource-efficient, produce planet-friendly food that people enjoy, and build thriving communities in the areas where McCain operates.

“Environmental and social stewardship are part of our DNA at McCain. The escalating climate and nature crises illustrate the fragility of our global food system with a wide-reaching impact on consumers, growers, the land, and communities. We believe agriculture can and must be transformed to safeguard our future and we are encouraged by the progress we are seeing in our sustainability journey. While much work remains, we are determined to continue to advance on our commitments,” Max Koeune, President and CEO of McCain Foods concluded.
