Kronen’s Latest Dryer Boasts Automatic Change of Rotation Direction

Like most vegetables destined for processing, it is critical that potatoes are free from moisture before being fried of flavored. This helps in improving the efficiency of the entire processing cycle. In order to eliminate all the surface water from the vegetables, a dryer is needed that is developed not to damage the potato.

To solve this problem, Kronen is offering an updated version of its vegetable spin-dryer. The KS-100 PLUS has a revised design and offers easy cleaning and operability, as well as efficient spinning results with minimum machine movement. The machine has a height of 583mm which is considered ergonomic and has a basket volume of 44 l.

The KS 100 PLUS features individual adjustment options for spin speed and the spin duration on 99 freely programmable memory locations enables adaptation to the product processed. A mode with spinning in both directions during the program is also available. The counter-rotating centrifuge cycle changes the direction of rotation automatically after half a spin period. So the product is loosened up and dried more efficiently which results in high drying.

The machine does not have dirt traps in the spin area, and no screws are used. A floor slope and a drainpipe with a diameter of 100mm help with water drainage. An alternative to the KS-100 PLUS, the KS-7 PLUS is available with seven settings of individually adjustable spin speeds and spin times.

For drying to be successful some basic conditions have to be met. According to Kronen, these have to do with the selection of the spinning speed and duration depending on the product and setting of half of the total spinning duration for the first spin cycle. The opening of the machine, removal and short manual shaking of the basket reinserting the basket in the machine, is also required, as well as the opening the machine, removal and short manual shaking of the basket, reinserting the basket in the machine.

By shaking the basket in between the two spin cycles manually, the product is mixed and loosened so the water between the pieces of vegetables can be removed more easily during the spinning.

However, with the KS-100 PLUS manual interruption of the spin cycle and shaking of the basket is not necessary. The counter-rotating centrifuge cycle automation changes the rotation direction after half of the spinning duration so that the product is loosened further and spin-dried efficiently.
