U.S. Potato Stocks in February 2023

On February 1, 2023, the 13 largest potato-producing U.S. States had 9.75m tons of potatoes in storage nationwide, a decrease of 3% from February 1, 2022. Also, 49% of the 2022 crop of potatoes were stored, an increase of 1% from the same time last year.
“The indicated season-to-date disappearance, at 10.16m tons, was down 5% from the same period last year. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 777,275 tons, was down slightly from the same time last year,” according to the latest NASS press release.
Potato stocks in Idaho on February 1, 2023, totaled 3.27m tons. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 2.85m tons. February 1, 2023, potato stocks in Oregon totaled 665,510 tons. Disappearance to date was 599,467 tons. In Washington, on February 1, 2023, potato stocks totaled 1.93m tons. Disappearance to date totaled 2.66m tons.
“Processors in Idaho used 1.79m tons of potatoes for the season. Malheur County, Oregon used 264,172 tons of potatoes for the season. The combined Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon usage was down 3% from February l, 2022. In Washington, 1.72m tons of potatoes had been used by processors for the season. In the other parts of Oregon, 817,917 tons of potatoes had been processed,” the report reveals.
Combined Washington and other Oregon usage were up 1% from the previous year. Processors in the eight U.S. States used 5.68m tons of potatoes for the season, down 2% from February 2022.
