The 2022-2023 PotatoNL Processing Season Has Been Concluded

The 2022–2023 season of PotatoNL was recently concluded, with chips potatoes meant for large-scale processing (category I) selling for EUR55 up to EUR60 per 100 kilos. The cost of category II potatoes fit for French fries ranges from EUR60 to EUR65.

The last potatoes used to make fresh chips are paid between EUR55 and EUR65 for every 100 kg. The past listing week of PotatoNL saw an increase of EUR2.50 in the price of potatoes used to make fast restaurant fries like Innovator. The cost per 100 kilograms is between EUR55 and EUR60.

In Belgium, the most recent quotation from Belgapom on 23 June stands at EUR60 to EUR63.60 per 100 kilos. The same prices apply to Challenger. Belgapom speaks of a fixed market mood, in which the supply of chips potatoes is smaller than the demand.

“De Vries & Westermann expects the first early potatoes to arrive in July but reports that there are also concerns about the transition from these first early potatoes to the main harvest. According to the broker, the condition of the crop is not good and this is partly due to the poor emergence of the seed potatoes,” according to Nieuwe Oogst.

These days, the potato forward quotes at the Leipzig EEX exchange for the April 2024 contract ended at EU29.30 per 100 kg. That is less than a week ago, or EUR0.50 per 100 kilograms. Since the end of May, forward prices have increased as a result of the season's sluggish start as a result of the winter's cold and damp spring.
