Government Promotes Field To Fork Online Education

The United States Department of Agriculture has launched an online tool to promote a better understanding of the role of farmers' as food producers.
It is hoped the ‘Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food' service will help generate discussion about the origins of food and help people connect with the farmers who supply their food, boosting the production, marketing and consumption of fresh, nutritious food, grown locally in a sustainable manner.
‘Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food' will feature alongside ‘Growing a Healthier You: Nutrition From the Farm to the Table' and the ‘MyFood-a-pedia' and '10 Tips Series' of online tools.
‘Growing a Healthier You: Nutrition From the Farm to the Table' links garden and farm produce to consumers' nutritional well-being and the significance of locally-grown fruits and vegetables. It will promote national initiatives such as National Nutrition Month and feature facts about specific fruits, vegetables and other foods.
'MyFood-a-pedia' gives consumers quick access to nutrition information for more than 1,000 foods and calorie counting information. ‘The 10 Tips Series' features specific advice as part of a nutrition education series with tips include cutting back on salt and sodium and advice for making environmentally-friendly food choices.
