Dutch Demand for Processing Potatoes Grew Robust in March 2023

Vavi, The Netherlands potato processors union, recently issued the most recent Dutch spud processing numbers, which revealed robust demand for raw material in March 2023.
According to the numbers, processing potato utilization for the month was 350,700 metric tonnes, an increase of 11,300 metric tonnes, or 3.3%, over the same period the previous year.
Strong global demand for processed potato products is driving the increase in processing potato utilization. This demand, along with reduced output at the start of the season, has resulted in processors attempting to obtain uncommitted volumes, resulting in free-buy stock levels in stores remaining below normal throughout the season.
Furthermore, the Mintec experts say, delays in new crop planting in Europe prompted market participants to speculate that the delivery of the early crop could be delayed, putting additional pressure on stocks for the balance of the 2022/23 season.
As a result, European processed potato prices have reached all-time highs. The Mintec Benchmark Prices for Processing Potatoes, EXW Netherlands were assessed at EUR34.50/100kg on April 25th, 2023, a 63.5% rise over the same time last season and the highest value since the pricing series began in 2014.
