The Bangladeshi Government is considering providing cash incentives to potato exporters in a bid to boost production and spud sales prices.
So far potato production has exceeded Government targets of 7.2 tonnes to eight tonnes.
But officials believe stock is being sold at a price less than the cost of production.
The Commerce Industry has stated that in principle, it would increase cash incentives at the request of the Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA).
A final decision on the incentives is expected following official approval from the Finance Ministry.
The BCSA has warned that potato export is paramount to promoting cultivation and ensuring fair prices for produce.
