Belarus Seeks to Increase Potato Exports

In a recent field visit, Belarus president Aleksandr Lukashenko said that this year Belarusian potatoes have great export potential, Belarus News has revealed.
Serbia, Macedonia, Uzbekistan, and other countries are reportedly ready to receive Belarusian potatoes. The president upheld the idea to boost the export of potatoes, however, he stated that the main objective is to meet domestic demand.
Lukashenko also noted the importance of seed potatoes, saying that what remains can be sold abroad with the help of the Belkoopsoyuz procurement company.
The head of state acknowledged that, so far, the marketing efforts were inadequate, but he appeared convinced that other countries will choose to buy Belarusian potatoes because of their good quality, and not only because the harvests were poor in their region. Furthermore, Lukashenko spoke about the possibility of increased exports to Ukraine, as the country suffered a drought that causes substantial damage to crops.
