Additional 3,000 Tons of Kurdish Potatoes Requested by the UAE

According to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), numerous other Gulf governments are now lining up to acquire spuds produced by the Kurdistan Region after a successful experience with exporting potatoes to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in recent weeks.

Luqman Hajji, head of sales at the Kurdistan-Holland firm for agricultural investments, recently told Rudaw that they had just sold 300 tons of potatoes produced by Kurdish farmers to the UAE following a visit to the company's storage facilities by the Emirati consul.

“They [UAE] have now requested an additional 3,000 tons, which we have prepared and, God willing, will export to them soon,” Hajji said.

He further stated that numerous other countries, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Greece, are in talks to purchase the goods.

In 2023, the Kurdistan Region is anticipated to produce 750,000 tons of potatoes, according to a statement from the KRG, which also stated that the administration is now taking steps to reduce potato imports from other nations.
