Schaap Holland B.V Acquires Shares in Breeders Trust

Schaap Holland B.V. – a family-run company that specializes in peeled potato products, seed potatoes and potatoes for the processing industry – has recently acquired 5% of the Brussels-based Breeders Trust shares.
Breeders Trust is an organization that was set up in 2008 to monitor the enforcement of Plant Breeders’ Rights. Every year, investments worth millions of Euro are poured into the breeding of new and promising potato verities. The association also provides information explaining the importance of using certified seeds.
Among other things, Breeders Trust assists the participating companies in the implementation and enforcement of their Plant Breeders Rights protection and in the prevention of the illegal trade in plant propagation material. Current member companies include Agrico, Europlant, Danespo HZPC and Solana.
“Together with a close-knit group of potato breeders, we invest considerable resources into the development of breeds and research. We, therefore, appreciate the importance of joining forces in the international arena, to strengthen the enforcement of rules and regulations around Plant Breeders’ Rights,” said Hand Geling, director of consumption and seed potatoes for Schaap Holland.
