Potato Agro to Launch Major Potato Processing Facility in Ukraine

Ukrainian potato processor Potato Agro has begun construction of a large-scale plant that will produce both potato flour and frozen French fries, with an annual capacity of between 150,000 and 180,000 tonnes. Company director Olha Lonska confirmed to AgroPortal.ua that building work is already underway, with part of the processing equipment delivered to the site.

The new facility will target a gap in Ukraine’s value-added potato sector, where only a handful of varieties are suitable for French fry production. “Almost no one in Ukraine is engaged in growing potatoes for French fries production, so we decided to gain this experience,” Lonska said. “Of course, we are not doing this alone, but involving colleagues from the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers.”

Currently, just two to three varieties suited to French fry production are registered in Ukraine’s State Register. Potato Agro is trialling additional varieties to assess their performance under local growing conditions.

The project also includes a line for producing dry potato mix, which is expected to be operational in early 2026. The company plans to process part of this year’s harvest into the new product, diversifying its portfolio and tapping into domestic demand for both frozen and dehydrated potato products.
