McCain Coaldale Processing Facility Receives USD436.9m Investment

McCain Foods is significantly increasing its investment in Coaldale, Alberta, doubling the size of its facility and production. The USD436.9m investment initiative will generate 260 new jobs, which will significantly boost the local economy.

The investment reflects McCain's robust business expansion and reaffirms the company's dedication to Canadian agriculture and food supply.

“The development in Alberta marks our largest global investment in our 65-year history, totaling USD436.9m while underscoring our commitment to the future of agriculture and innovation in Canada. This will fuel continued growth for the business, allowing us to serve key markets further by bringing customers high-quality potatoes that begin with our dedicated local farming community,” Max Koeune, President & Chief Executive Officer, of McCain Foods mentioned.

Best practices will be implemented following McCain's sustainability commitments to make sure the facility assists McCain in its effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its global operations in half by the end of the decade. The addition will include solar and wind energy systems, giving the Coaldale site 100% renewable power.

To reduce the need for natural gas, renewable biogas produced at the wastewater treatment plant will be increased and transported to the steam boilers. To further expand on sustainability efforts, a water recycling system will be introduced to produce clean potable water to be used in the manufacturing process.

Two brand-new cutting-edge manufacturing lines will be built as a result of the expansion in Coaldale. The expansion project will increase the number of hourly and salaried workers who work on these lines once it is completely operational, bringing the total number of employees at Coaldale to 485. Later this year, construction on the extension is anticipated to begin.

McCain Foods has operated a processing facility in Coaldale since 2000, currently employing 225 people and working with potato farmers across Southern Alberta.
