Agrico to Purchase The Potato Company’s Seed Operations

The potato cooperative Agrico has declared its intention to purchase The Potato Company's (TPC) seed potato operations. Through this calculated acquisition, Agrico has made a significant stride in increasing its area to keep up with the increasing demand. Additionally, this provides synergistic benefits that will aid Agrico in further optimizing its organization.

After a fruitful multi-year strategic alliance in the field of seed potatoes, both companies saw this purchase as the natural “next step.” By acquiring TPC, Agrico will have the opportunity to maintain its position as a dependable and steady partner in the industry while also pursuing its growth goals in the Western European seed potato market, which is now contracting.

“This acquisition contributes to Agrico’s growth objective in Western Europe’s shrinking seed potato market. This allows us to focus even more strongly on the sales and development of monopoly varieties. TPC’s distribution network to more than 60 countries is also an excellent addition to our sales channels,” TPC’s CEO Mark Zuidhof mentioned.

Subsidiary TPC

TPC, a fast-growing firm that was founded about 20 years ago, grows more than 450 hectares of seed potatoes under pool contracts and is heavily involved in free trade. In addition to having a huge land area, TPC manages its distribution network for both its free trade and monopolistic variants well. TPC has successfully developed potato types that exhibit extensive resistance against potato cyst nematodes.

TPC will remain a member of the group and join Agrico as a wholly-owned subsidiary. For this reason, TPC's devoted and knowledgeable staff will continue to operate under a formal contract with TPC B.V. This will guarantee the preservation of the crucial understanding of the market and operational processes.

“I am proud that we have brought the company so far over almost 20 years, and I look forward to further growth and professionalization along with Agrico. TPC, as a second sales channel within the Agrico group, will also be able to further evolve its international activities. Along with Agrico, we will be able to continue to guarantee the return for our growers and, in terms of sales, we will remain visible under the identity of TPC,” TPC’s owner Gaby Stet concluded.
