Agrana Snatches Up US Organic Starch Supplier

Agrana is expanding its distribution activities in its starch segment, and so it has acquired 100% of shares in the US distribution company Marroquin Organic International, based in Santa Cruz (California). The firm has 29 years of experience supplying organic and non-GMO ingredients including potato starch.
“Marroquin Organic International is a pioneer in the organic and non-GMO food ingredient sector in the US and enjoys a high reputation in the market. This acquisition is a perfect fit in terms of implementing our specialties strategy in the starch segment. Agrana possesses many years of experience in the production specialty starches and is increasingly focusing on clean label starches which have not been chemically modified. The organic origins and non-GMO status of our products are increasingly appreciated by customers and users alike, particularly in the US where, with starch largely being based on genetically-modified corn, demand for non-GMO starches is rising,” said Agrana CEO Johann Marihart.
Agrana is an internationally-oriented Austrian industrial company offering starch, fruit and sugar solutions for customers in the food industry. The firm has 57 productions sites around the world and employs around 9,500 people. It has a total revenue of approximately EUR2.4bn.
