A New Community Shop Funded by McCain

The UK's largest producer of frozen potato products, McCain Foods, and Community Shop, an award-winning social enterprise that distributes leftover food and household goods, gathered with MPs and special guests from the neighborhood to formally open the doors to their new shop in Eastfield, North Yorkshire.
The McCain-funded store, which officially opened on Friday, August 4th, will employ hundreds of locals. It is the 12th social supermarket in Community Shop's network, which offers nearby residents access to significantly reduced goods as well as activities that can change their lives. These distinctive programs, which have helped tens of thousands of people over the past 10 years, combine skill development with one-on-one mentorship.
Major shops, brands, and manufacturers have contributed to the goods that are for sale at the store. These goods could have normally gone to waste but have been determined to be surplus.
The store's Community Hub, which will provide individualized personal development programs based on the requirements of each member, will use revenue generated at the store to reinvest in the neighborhood. These initiatives include everything from home budgeting and cooking groups to business classes and interview preparation.
The store will also have a Community Kitchen that will serve daily free meals to kids while also providing inexpensive, nutritional meals.
According to Jillian Moffatt, Regional President GB&I at McCain, her company is delighted to celebrate the opening of the new Community Shop in Eastfield - a place that McCain GB has called home for over 50 years.
“We’re proud to be partnering with Community Shop to bring this invaluable service to our local community and look forward to supporting it for years to come,” she mentioned.
Gary Stott, Executive Chairman at Community Shop, said that the partners are incredibly excited to open the doors of the brand-new Eastfield Community Shop.
“We know from our work across the UK that this store will have a big impact on those in the community who need it most. Community Shop goes far beyond just discounted food, with the life-changing development programs equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to focus on creating long-term positive change in their lives,” Stott declared.
The store is located at Community Shop Eastfield, Eastfield Community Centre, High Street, Scarborough, YO11 3LJ, and is open from 09:00 to 16:45 on weekdays, from 09:00 to 14:45 on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays.
